Al Kanfei Hashalom — EN

On the Wings of Peace

Eben Ezer

Eben Ezer was founded in 1998 as a choir at Cirkev Bratská (Church of Brethren). The name Eben Ezer translates from Hebrew as Stone of Help. The main objective of the choir’s existence is to connect people by means of music and singing. Eben Ezer is a musical family of more than 30 men and women from various parts of Slovak and Czech Republics. Eben Ezer — “Thus far has the Lord helped us” is a personal pronouncement of both individual singers and the choir as a whole. The musical ensemble Eben Ezer has given concerts at Cirkev Bratská and at national and international festivals (Great Britain). The choir partakes in educational projects both in Slovakia and abroad (Serbia, Romania and Norway). Eben Ezer recorded a CD Magnum Mystérium and a multimedia CD Immanuel. The choir’s conductor and artistic director is Mária Volárová.

On the Wings of Peace

Al Kanfei Hashalom – On Wings of Peace is a full-length programme of the 30 member mixed choir Eben Ezer and their musicians. We are inspired by the captivating kaleidoscope of Jewish culture and the profound wisdom of its heritage.

Most members of my family were killed in concentration camps.
Tonight, thanks to your music, I felt reunited with them.

Al Kanfei Hashalom is a mosaic of Jewish music from the time of Renaissance to the present time. It is a colourful palette of both à cappella songs and solo and choral songs accompanied by live music. The objective of the project Al Kanfei Hashalom is to spread peace in a time of turmoil. We wish to establish a mutual dialogue and build bridges between nations and ethnics by means of presentation of the culture and the rich musical tradition of the Jewish nation out of respect for our Jewish roots, the Jewish nation itself and as a homage to the victims of the tragedy of holocaust.

Tonight you brought back my childhood!
I used to sing and listen to these songs as a child.

In 2018 Eben Ezer travelled thousands of kilometres with the project Al Kanfei Hashalom. In collaboration with the Pilsner klezmer band Mi Martef we gave several concerts (Commemoration of the Anniversary of the 1st Transport of Jewish Girls — Poprad, Festival of Jewish Culture “Šamajim” —  Třebíč,  concerts in synagogues — Ružomberok, Bardejov, Liptovský Mikuláš, Memorial Day of Holocaust — Stará Turá, synagogues Šurany and Levice).

The music really creates a connection between people
of various nationalities and religions.
